What is the Cost?

The Consolidated Appropriations Act (CAA) of 2023 extended the telehealth safe harbor for High Deductible Health Plans (HDHPs), which allowed $0 cost for general medical telemedicine visits prior to meeting deductible responsibility. This extension is set to expire on 12/31/2024, if not extended further. We will likely not know if it gets extended until end of the 2024 plan year. This means the cost for Teladoc general-medical visits for HSA medical plan participants will return to a fee of $56 or less, until the deductible is met, at which time it will resume to a $0 cost again. The traditional PPO plan is not impacted by expiring safe harbor and will continue to pay $0 per general medical telehealth visit through Teladoc in 2025.
